'Of course!' - Salah eases Liverpool injury fears as he claims he will be ready for Champions League final

Mohamed Salah insists he will be fit to feature in the Champions League final after sustaining an injury in the first half of the FA Cup final.

The Egypt star lasted just over half an hour of Saturday's clash with Chelsea at Wembley before his withdrawal due to a sore groin.

But the attacker and coach Jurgen Klpop downplayed the damage, with Salah saying he will be fit to help Liverpool as they chase Manchester City in the Premier League title race and prepare to face Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

What happened to Salah?

The final at Wembley was poised at 0-0 after 30 minutes when Salah went down in pain.

The forward looked in significant discomfort and it quickly became apparent that he would play no further part in the final.

Diogo Jota was sent on in his stead, while Liverpool now face a nervous wait to discover the extent of his injury.

Will Salah play again for Liverpool this season?

Salah walked through the mixed zone after the match and was asked by a reporter about his injury.

"I'm good," he said and was then asked if he will be fit to play in the Champions League final. He replied: "Of course".

Speaking after the game, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp expressed his hope that Salah and Virgil van Dijk, who was also substituted on Saturday, will be able to feature for the club again this season.

"Mo came and he said he could carry on, but he felt a little thing," Klopp told ITV. "I hope he will be fine."

He said at his press conference: "Obviously I spoke to [Salah and Van Dijk] already after the game, both are really okay. All we know is it's not a big thing, we really came through. But the next game is on Tuesday and that's obviously pretty quick.

"No, I think they will both be fine, but not maybe... we have training [on Sunday] morning, then if they tell me: 'I'm completely fine' I will be surprised but I will take it and then we have to go from there. So we will see."

How important is Salah to Liverpool's plans?

Salah has been in spectacular form this season for the Reds, netting 30 goals in all competitions to spearhead their trophy pursuit on four fronts.

As well as the FA Cup, Liverpool will hope he is not ruled out for three further decisive encounters they face in 2021-22.

On Tuesday, Jurgen Klopp's men take on Southampton in a must-win Premier League match, before closing out their campaign at home to Wolves next weekend.

On May 28, meanwhile, Real Madrid lie in wait in the Champions League final in Paris.
